Having been confined to bed for so long, I've watched a lot of tv that I don't usually get to see...and frankly, much of it scares me.
It seems that there's a whole genre of shows that hold up people's worst and most crass behaviours as not only entertaining but somehow 'real' and 'honest.' HUH???? We may really have our baser side, but I think there is merit to *choosing* behaviours that reflect the best that is in us rather than the worst.
I watch the news and then wonder how much of the road rage and rudeness that seems rampant is a result of being inundated with the nastiness on the airwaves, from Howard Stern to Jerry Springer and the 'comedy' shows that hold up vulgarity as humour.
Gosh, I sound like a prude and I don't really feel like one, but sheesh, shouldn't there be some limits to our 'self-expression'?? Is good taste a thing of the past? I sure hope not!
